Christmas Ball Gown, DIY
I haven't made a Christmas outfit for years but when I saw this fabric, I was completely smitten and I couldn't get it out of my mind.
I kept making up designs with it in my mind but when I finally envisioned it as a ball gown style I headed back to Joann and bought 3 yds of it, as well as some lining fabric, also 3 yds.
I have already expressed that I didn't immediately jump for joy at the rose embroidery trend but how could I not fall in love with this detailing?
I knew that making a skirt would be a piece of Christmas cake because I could trim the ends of the fabric off to create this gorgeous hem line.
With the details figured out, I got to work making this beauty!
I layed out both of my fabrics on top of each other, with the right sides facing up so that I had 3 yds of fabric laying flat with the scallops running all along the top and the bottom of the fabric. I then measured the length from the floor to my high waist and cut that same length from the bottom edge of the scallop trim going straight up.
I finished the under layer first by bringing the two end pieces together and stitching them all the way up from bottom to the top. I then inserted a zipper in this seam and hemmed the bottom
I repeated STEP 2 but left an opening near the top of the skirt which was the same length as the zipper, and I trimmed away the excess netting at the bottom of the fabric which created the beautiful scalloped hem.
I placed the lining skirt inside the floral skirt with the right sides facing outward, and the one seam on each matching up. I then serged the two skirts together along the top edge creating one skirt with two layers
I gathered the top edge of the skirt to fit my waist then I added a waist band with a closure hook.
Do you remember the opening of the seam of the floral fabric? Well it goes right over top of the zipper which keeps the two layers separate but allows access to the zipper. With so much gathering in the skirt you can not see the opening.
I already had the black lace top which compliments the skirt so much, but nothing compliments it more than my cute hubby!
We hope you all have a very Merry Christmas and that you find joy in being with loved ones and serving those around you.
MERRY CHRISTMAS 2017!!
